Ricky Ponting, who retired in December 2012 (11 months before Tendulkar) scored 13,378 Test runs. He was second to Tendulkar at the time, and still is in 2024.
As of March 2024, the leading scorer among those still playing Test cricket is Joe Root, who is currently 10th overall with 11,626. Next comes Steve Smith, who is 15th with 9,665.
Tendulkar and Ponting are followed by Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid, Alastair Cook and Kumar Sangakkara. Brian Lara is now seventh.
